Hi friends,
So, why “the new MWN”, and what’s different over here at MWN HQ?
Well — this newsletter has morphed quite a bit over the last year since I started it. I’ve learned a lot and I thought it was time for an invigorating refresh.
First of all, we nearly had a new name! That’s right, I almost dropped nutrition altogether.
Let’s break it down a bit:
Modern: What the generation before us understood about women’s health and hormones was vastly different (and somewhat non-existent, scientifically) than what we understand today. I’m looking at the most up-to-date, and modern, findings to re-write the script for the 2025 woman.
Women: We gals have to stick together.
Nutrition: ...
Every time I’d see the name, I was reminded of the years I spent swimming in diet culture, measuring, restricting, second-guessing. Maybe you’ve had that experience too? Where nutrition feels more like a list of rules than a path toward feeling good in your body everyday, and for the long term.
So I sat with it. I journaled on it. I even made a list of other names: Modern Women’s Nourishment, Modern Women’s Refresh, Modern Women’s Cheerleader (hehe). As you can see, nothing stuck.
And then it hit me, maybe the word “nutrition” isn’t the issue. Maybe the issue is how we’ve been programmed to see it.
So I took a closer look at the actual definition. “Nutrition is the biochemical and physiological process by which an organism uses food and water to support its life.”
Ok. Ok. But what if nutrition doesn’t mean counting and control? What if it means nourishment and wellbeing, keeping us alive and helping us feel alive? What if it included the ways we feed our energy, our hormones, our relationships, and our sense of self, not just our bodies? ALL the parts that encompass supporting our life?
That’s when it clicked. Modern Women’s Nutrition wasn’t going anywhere. We are going to honor its name by continuing to shine a modern light on nutrition, expanding its scope and meaning to touch on all of the areas that help us feel vibrant and alive.
What’s New Here
MWN is food forward, offering healthy recipes, snack and meal ideas, and nutrition basics. We can’t forget that I am a professional chef, and I love food. And during the past few years, I’ve built two programs helping women with their nutrition. I’ll always love food, and the beauty of how it brings people together. Food is a massive part of my world, personally and professionally. But it’s not everything.
The new MWN is also about the bigger picture. How we live, not just how we eat. The rituals that keep us steady. The modern science helping us understand how our female bodies work. The boundaries that protect our energy. The cultural perspectives that remind us there’s more than one way to be a woman in her body.
And speaking of culture….
A French Twist
Living between California and France for about 3 years of my life has changed how I see all of this. And I love to share the quirky, interesting and fun observations I’ve made with you.
In France, food isn’t moralized – there’s not typically a right and wrong. Just like speaking the language itself, they will have rules to make the language sound more beautiful, and have exceptions to all the rules.
Food and life are simply enjoyed. “Mais il faut profiter!” (“Well make sure to enjoy!” said my friend today). Meals are welcomed rituals, not chores.
Beauty isn’t about youth; it’s about presence.
Aging isn’t a crisis, it’s simply another chapter of the gift of life.
That perspective is felt in the farmer’s market and fromagerie I frequent each week, and in the lifestyle choices my French girlfriends make every day. And it’s what’s woven through everything I share here at MWN. That’s not to say that some of my California girlfriends don’t live and feel the same way, but on the whole, it’s just different.
The French way of life is an invitation to soften the edges of wellness and let health feel more human, more pleasurable, and more doable.
Many Voices, More Perspective
This space isn’t just about my voice. Women’s wellbeing is too complex for one lens, one approach, one culture. I love collaborating with leaders in cooking, nutrition, psychology, functional medicine, and women’s health. The more perspectives we bring in, the richer this conversation becomes. I will be collaborating with some incredibly wise experts and thinkers and would love your thoughts on all of it!
What you’ll find here
Yes, you’ll still get recipes and food inspiration. But you’ll also find:
Stories that remind you you’re not alone
Science that helps make sense of your hormones and energy
Rituals and practices that actually fit into your life
Cultural perspectives that expand how we think about wellbeing
Reasons to smile today
This is the new Modern Women’s Nutrition, a softer, fuller, more dynamic take on what it means to feel truly nourished.
I’m so glad you’re here!

This Grilled Everything Bowl (cred:
